Canada did not fare well in the group stage, finishing second in Group B. Once they secured a playoff spot, though, the Canadians lost interest in playing the rest of the group. After their defeat by Norway, however, Canada played a different game against Czech Republic.
Finland defeated all of the underdogs in its group, but lost to Sweden and the United States. Though the team had a decent squad for the tournament, they were weaker than their stronger rivals.
Of course, Canada does not particularly care about the tournament, but the team cannot afford to drop out at the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championship. And Canada has a very decent squad this year.
