SKA had a bad start to the season, but now the team has started to reaffirm its status as one of the strongest teams in the Western Conference. The club has already climbed to 3rd place in the table, although the gap to Lokomotiv is still very large.
Torpedo surprised a lot of people last season - the team was even the leader in the Western Conference for a while, but then had a very poor end of the regular season, finishing in the usual 7th place. In the new season the team from Nizhny Novgorod has more stable results, the team alternates wins with losses, but so far there are more losses.
SKA and Torpedo played each other at the playoff stage of the Gagarin Cup last season, with the St. Petersburg club coming out stronger. SKA also looks favourable at the moment.
