The USA, despite their excellent play in the group (7 wins in 7 games, only the game against Sweden went to overtime), are still considered the "dark horse" in the tournament. Though the USA have a very good squad this year, with most of the players coming from the NHL, both young talents and experienced players, as well as a couple of players from the AHL.
The Czech Republic finished 4th in their group, losing to all important opponents, even losing to Latvia. And victories over Slovenia, Norway, Kazakhstan and Slovakia don't tell you much.
Last year the Czech Republic and the USA played each other twice, and then both matches were won by the Czech Republic, but this year the USA looks the clearer favourite.
